Darren Jordan is one of FCCA’s most experienced coaches, bringing over 15 years of coaching knowledge combined with a strong playing background at the Premier League level.
Having progressed through the Surrey Pathway, Darren went on to play senior cricket in the Sussex Premier Division, representing clubs such as Dorking and Horsham. An accomplished all-rounder, he developed his game through a traditional pathway built on strong fundamentals and consistent performance.

One of Darren’s standout achievements during his playing career was being the only state school player selected in his Surrey age group, highlighting both his ability and determination to succeed in competitive environments.
Coaching Experience and Approach
Darren has been coaching for over 15 years and holds an ECB Level 2 qualification. During this time, he has worked with a wide range of players across different age groups, helping them improve technically, tactically, and mentally.
His coaching approach is centred around improving player performance, with a strong emphasis on building solid fundamentals first. Darren believes that without the right base, players can struggle to progress consistently.
At the same time, he is careful not to restrict individuality:
“It’s about mixing strong fundamentals without stifling a player’s natural flair.”
This balance allows players to develop their own game while still maintaining the structure required to perform under pressure.
Why Darren Coaches at FCCA
Darren values FCCA’s approach to player development, particularly its commitment to doing things the right way.
“FCCA stands out because it doesn’t follow trends - it sticks to its core values.”
This philosophy aligns closely with Darren’s own belief in long-term development over short-term success.
What Drives Darren as a Coach
Darren is motivated by one simple outcome - helping players improve and perform on the pitch.
The most rewarding part of coaching for him is seeing players take their training into matches and achieve results through their hard work.
Advice for Young Cricketers
Darren places a strong emphasis on mindset and resilience, which he believes are essential for success in cricket.
“Cricket is a game where failure happens a lot - don’t get too high when things are going well and don’t get too down when they’re not.”
He also encourages players to stay focused on their own journey:
“Don’t try to please everyone - not everybody’s opinion matters.”
Beyond Cricket
Away from the field, Darren is a keen snooker player and has achieved century breaks, reflecting his focus, discipline, and competitive mindset.
He is also a supporter of Sussex Cricket and greatly admires Malcolm Marshall, one of the game’s greatest fast bowlers.
What Success Means
For Darren, success in cricket is straightforward:
Runs. Wickets. And being the best version of yourself.
